A Vow Interrupted
The grand cathedral of Eldoria glowed under the soft luminescence of a thousand candles.
E.g. :I caught my own sister swapping my daughter's dream cake for cheap cereal, minutes before the party.
Silk banners depicting ancient crests draped from towering arches.
Every pew was filled with the cream of the kingdom’s nobility, their hushed murmurs a testament to the momentous occasion.
Princess Seraphina, radiant in a gown spun from starlight and woven with pearls, floated towards the altar.
Lord Kaelen, her intended, a man of striking presence and lineage, awaited her with a practiced, charming smile.
Their union was more than love; it was a strategic alliance, promised to usher in an era of prosperity and peace.
But beneath the surface of this glittering facade, an older, colder magic stirred.
Seraphina herself harbored a secret, one buried deep within her bloodline, unbeknownst even to her.
Her ancestors, the Lunevale mages, had long ago made a desperate pact.
A pact to save their dying magic, binding their purest descendant to a future chosen for them.
Lord Kaelen’s family, the Obsidian Watch, were the keepers of that pact.
They knew Seraphina’s true potential, her latent power, which they intended to harness through this marriage.
The Serpent in the Garden
Just as the High Priest raised his hands for the final blessing, a chilling gust of wind swept through the nave.
The grand oak doors, firmly shut moments before, creaked open with an ominous groan.
All eyes turned to the entrance, where a cloaked figure stood bathed in the faint, ethereal light filtering from outside.
Her silhouette was stark against the ornate stonework, her magic-infused robe shimmering faintly.
This was Elara, Seraphina’s estranged aunt, a rogue mage who had dedicated her life to uncovering the forgotten truths of their lineage.
Elara had discovered the insidious terms of the Lunevale Pact.
She knew that upon the exchange of rings, Seraphina’s essence, her very soul, would be irrevocably bound and slowly drained to fuel the Obsidian Watch’s dark ambitions.
Kaelen’s charming smile faltered, a flicker of cold calculation replacing it as he recognized Elara.
He had believed her neutralized, her knowledge silenced years ago.
Elara glided forward, her steps silent, a small, intricate crystal vial clutched in her hand.
“Stop this farce!” her voice echoed, resonating with a strange, magical timbre.
The guests gasped, some rising in outrage, but a strange paralysis seemed to hold them.
Kaelen’s composure fractured, his eyes narrowing in a silent, deadly threat.
A Desperate Transformation
“Seraphina, you are walking into a gilded cage!” Elara pleaded, her voice strained with urgency.
Seraphina, confused and frightened, looked from her aunt to Kaelen, her joy turning to bewildered fear.
The High Priest, recovering from his shock, attempted to intervene, but Elara’s magic held him at bay.
“You are not just a princess; you are the Key!” Elara declared, her eyes fixed on Seraphina.
Kaelen snarled, stepping protectively in front of Seraphina, his hand subtly moving to his sword hilt.
“Silence, madwoman!” he commanded, his voice now devoid of its earlier charm.
Elara ignored him, her gaze piercing Seraphina’s very soul.
“This potion is not a curse, my dear niece; it is a temporary shield, a reversion to your true, uncorrupted form!” she cried.
With a desperate, precise motion, Elara uncorked the crystal vial.
A shimmering, silver mist erupted from it, arcing gracefully towards Seraphina.
Kaelen roared, pushing Seraphina just as the mist enveloped her.
He knew what this meant; it would unravel his carefully laid plans.
A blinding flash of golden light consumed Seraphina’s form, making the guests cry out in terror.
