The Unseen Observer

The late autumn air at Hogwarts was always crisp, carrying the scent of ancient stone and impending winter.

E.g. :The secret room in my family's mansion held a truth that destroyed everything I believed.

Ron Weasley, usually radiating an easygoing cheer, felt a knot of dread tightening in his stomach as he circled high above the Quidditch pitch on his Cleansweep Seven.

Below, the usual evening practice was underway, but his gaze kept drifting to the shadowy edge of the stands.

There, a lone figure stood, unusually still, distinct from the milling students.

Alistair Finch, a transfer student from Durmstrang Institute, had arrived two months ago, bringing with him an aura of unsettling calm.

He was impeccably mannered, academically brilliant, and yet, completely devoid of any genuine warmth or spontaneity.

Ron, Harry, and Hermione had initially dismissed him as another peculiar foreign student, perhaps a bit arrogant.

But Ron had seen things.

Flashes of unnatural light from Alistair’s dorm window late at night.

Whispers of students feeling unnerved, reporting strange dreams after encountering him.

Alistair’s eyes, a startling shade of glacial blue, seemed to hold an ancient, knowing coldness that sent shivers down Ron’s spine.

Professor Dumbledore had been strangely silent on the matter, a silence that felt heavier than usual, almost a tacit warning.

Then came the note.

A scrap of parchment, left anonymously on his bedside table three nights ago, bearing a single, cryptic instruction: “The glamor breaks at elevation. Redacted truth requires volatile catalyst. Prepare.”

Beside it lay a small, dark vial of shimmering, viscous liquid.

Ron had recognized the intricate runes etched into the stopper from a forbidden book he'd once accidentally glimpsed in the Restricted Section.

This wasn't a prank potion.

This was something ancient, dangerous, and specific.

Harry and Hermione, flying alongside him, exchanged lighthearted banter, oblivious to the storm brewing within Ron.

His own laughter felt hollow, forced, a mere echo of his usual self.

His hand instinctively tightened around the vial hidden in his robes, its glass cool against his palm.

He knew what he had to do, but the sheer audacity, the potential consequences, threatened to overwhelm him.

The Catalyst

“Another loop, Ron! Don’t tell me you’re getting rusty!” Harry called out, his voice cheerful, oblivious.

Ron managed a weak grin, banking his broom in a wide arc that brought him closer to the stands.

Alistair Finch hadn't moved.

His glacial eyes were fixed on them, a faint, almost imperceptible smirk playing on his lips.

It was a look of smug superiority, as if he knew something they didn't, as if he was waiting.

Ron’s heart hammered against his ribs, a frantic drumbeat of adrenaline and terror.

This was it.

He glanced at Harry, then at Hermione, who was frowning slightly, sensing something amiss in his usual jovial demeanor.

He offered them a fleeting, tight-lipped smile, a silent apology for what he was about to do.

Then, with a sudden surge of his broomstick and a burst of courage he didn't know he possessed, he broke away from his friends.

He dove towards Alistair, a trajectory so swift and unexpected it drew gasps from the students below.

Alistair’s smirk faltered, his eyes widening fractionally as he registered Ron’s direct approach.

There was a flicker of something new in those cold depths – a sliver of surprise, perhaps even fear.

Ron closed the distance in a blur, his hand snatching the vial from his robes.

He didn’t hesitate, didn’t second-guess the terrible instruction.

With a practiced flick of his wrist, perfected over countless Quidditch practices, he launched the potion.

The vial spun end-over-end, a dark, shimmering projectile against the fading light.

It struck Alistair squarely on the head, shattering with a soft pop and releasing its contents in an oily, iridescent mist.

The Unveiling

Alistair let out a guttural gasp, a sound unlike any human noise Ron had ever heard.

The iridescent mist seemed to sink into his skin, and immediately, his body began to swell.

It wasn't a comical inflation; it was grotesque, horrifying.

His robes stretched, then tore, revealing skin that began to bloat and distend at an impossible rate.

His face contorted, not just in terror, but in something far more ancient and furious.

His jaw unhinged, his eyes bulging as his body rapidly became a monstrous, sphere-like mass, impossibly vast.

Students below screamed, scattering in all directions, their cheers turning to terrified cries.

Harry and Hermione, momentarily stunned, rushed their brooms towards Ron, their faces etched with shock and disbelief.

Alistair, or rather, the thing that had been Alistair, began to lift off the ground.
