I caught my fiancé and my best friend in our bed, wearing MY wedding dress.

The air always felt a little lighter on those perfect spring mornings, full of promise.

That day was supposed to be one of the best mornings of my life, a few weeks before my wedding.

I woke up with a nervous flutter in my stomach, the kind that whispers of new beginnings.

Mark, my fiancé, was already up, probably making his famous coffee.

He was everything I thought I wanted, charming, handsome, and always made me laugh.

Jessica, my best friend since kindergarten, was my rock, my confidante, my maid of honor.

We’d planned every detail of the wedding together, from the flower arrangements to the seating chart.

She even helped me pick out my dream wedding dress, a delicate lace gown that made me feel like a princess.

I’d left the dress at our apartment, carefully tucked away in the spare room closet, a little superstition for good luck.

That morning, I had a sudden urge to check on it, to just look at it one more time.

Mark had mentioned he was going out for an early run with his buddies.

Jessica was supposed to be at her sister's for an emergency bridal shower planning session.

I caught my fiancé and my best friend in our bed, wearing MY wedding dress.

The apartment was eerily quiet when I walked in, which immediately felt off.

I called out for Mark, but only silence answered.

A knot tightened in my stomach; a primal sense of dread began to creep in.

I walked past the living room, heading towards our bedroom first, thinking maybe he’d come back early.

The door was slightly ajar, casting a sliver of light into the dim hallway.

I heard a muffled giggle, a sound that froze me in my tracks.

It wasn't Mark's laugh.

My heart pounded against my ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the silence.

I pushed the door open just a few inches more, enough to peek inside.

What I saw will forever be etched into the darkest corners of my mind.

Mark.

And Jessica.

They were tangled together in our bed, in the messy sheets of the bed we shared.

But that wasn't the worst part.

Jessica was wearing my wedding dress.

The lace, the delicate embroidery, the train – all of it was on her.

My breath hitched in my throat; the world tilted on its axis.

It was a scene ripped straight from a nightmare, a cruel, impossible joke.

My vision blurred, but the image burned itself into my retina, impossibly clear.

The dress, my symbol of hope and future, desecrated, worn by the very person who was supposed to stand beside me.

Their eyes snapped open, wide with a mixture of terror and immediate shame.

Mark scrambled to cover himself, Jessica pulled at the lace, trying to hide.

But it was too late.

The damage was done.

A guttural sound escaped my lips, a strangled cry I didn’t recognize.
