I couldn't believe my eyes when my own sister-in-law deliberately ruined my son's seventh birthday party.

I never thought family could be so deeply cruel until the day of my only son Leo’s seventh birthday.

We had spent six months saving every extra dollar to give him the superhero party of his dreams.

Leo had been drawing pictures of his custom Spider-Man cake on the fridge since January.

My sister-in-law, Jessica, had repeatedly offered to handle the catering and the bakery pickup.

I trusted her because she swore up and down that she wanted to do something special for her favorite nephew.

That was the single biggest mistake of my entire life.

On the morning of the party, the backyard was decked out with professional decorations I had ordered online.

Thirty kids from Leo’s class and all our close neighborhood friends were expected to arrive by noon.

At eleven o'clock, Jessica pulled into the driveway in her oversized SUV with a smug look on her face.

She stepped out of the car holding a plain, generic grocery store sheet cake that looked like it had been dropped.

I couldn't believe my eyes when my own sister-in-law deliberately ruined my son's seventh birthday party.

My heart completely stopped beating for a second.

I walked over to her and asked where the custom Spider-Man cake was.

Jessica just laughed in my face and told me that the bakery made a mistake so she bought this instead.

But when I looked inside the back of her car, I saw the empty box of the expensive custom cake shoved upside down next to her gym bag.

She had intentionally destroyed it, or given it away to her own friends, just to humiliate me in front of everyone.

Before I could even process the betrayal, thirty screaming seven-year-olds poured through our front gate.

Leo ran over expecting to see his hero cake, his eyes shining with pure excitement.

Instead, he saw a smudged, melting vanilla cake with generic blue frosting that said "Happy Birthday Boss" in crooked letters.

My little boy’s face instantly fell, and tears welled up in his big brown eyes.

He looked up at me with a heartbroken expression that will haunt me until the day I die.

He whispered to me, asking why nobody liked his party.

Rage boiled up inside my chest so hot and fast that I thought I might actually vomit.

I turned to confront Jessica, but she was already busy handing out cheap dollar-store plastic toys to all the wrong kids.

She had invited her own co-workers' children without telling us, completely overwhelming our food and seating capacity.

The pizza delivery arrived, but Jessica had somehow canceled half the order to save money for her own weekend shopping spree.

Half of the children were left sitting around empty tables with nothing to eat while their parents whispered and stared at us.

I tried my absolute best to put on a brave smile and lead the games, but my hands were shaking uncontrollably.

Every time I looked at Leo sitting quietly in the corner picking at his plain paper plate, my stomach twisted into knots.

My husband was stuck at work due to an emergency shift, leaving me completely alone to weather this psychological storm.

When I tried to pull Jessica aside to tell her to leave, she started crying crocodile tears and playing the victim.

She screamed at the top of her lungs that I was an ungrateful, hysterical control freak who ruined her hard work.
