I saw my fiancé propose to my best friend at our engagement spot.

My world was painted in a kaleidoscope of happiness just weeks ago.

I was planning my dream wedding with Mark, the man I thought was my soulmate.

My best friend, Sarah, was supposed to be my maid of honor, my rock, my sister by choice.

We had a spot, Mark and I, a little clearing overlooking the lake where he first asked me to marry him.

It was sacred, a place filled with whispered promises and future dreams.

I cherished that spot more than words could say.

Last Tuesday, Mark said he had a surprise for me there, a special anniversary celebration of our engagement.

My heart fluttered with excitement all day.

I even called Sarah, gushing about how thoughtful he was.

She sounded a little off, distracted perhaps, but I dismissed it as pre-wedding stress.

I dressed in the same dress I wore on our actual engagement day, hoping to surprise him back.

The drive was agonizingly slow, each turn building my anticipation.

When I arrived, the sun was just beginning to dip, casting golden hues across the water.

I saw my fiancé propose to my best friend at our engagement spot.

But something was wrong; I could see two figures, not one.

My steps faltered, a cold dread snaking its way up my spine.

As I got closer, my breath hitched in my throat.

There he was, Mark, my fiancé, on one knee.

And there she was, Sarah, my best friend, tears streaming down her face, a hand clasped over her mouth.

He was holding a small, velvet box.

The same kind of box he held when he proposed to me.

My vision blurred, the beautiful sunset turning into a fiery, hellish glow.

I couldn’t hear their words, only a deafening roar in my ears.

But I didn't need to hear.

The scene burned itself into my memory with brutal clarity.

Sarah nodded, a small, choked sob escaping her lips.

Mark slipped the ring onto her finger, then pulled her into a tender embrace.

It was a slow-motion nightmare, every second stretching into an eternity of agony.

My legs felt like lead, rooted to the spot, unable to move, unable to scream.

This wasn't a surprise for me.

This was a betrayal of cosmic proportions.

The two people I loved and trusted most in the world, standing there, intertwined in the very spot where my own future began.

My heart didn’t just break; it shattered into a million irreparable pieces.

I think I made a sound, a small gasp, because Sarah looked up then.

Her eyes, once full of tears of joy, instantly filled with horror.

Mark turned, his face blanching as he saw me.

The shock on their faces was almost comical, if not for the soul-crushing pain it inflicted.

I wanted to run, to scream, to disappear from existence.

But I stood there, frozen, watching my entire future crumble before my eyes.
