I walked in on my best friend and fiancé... in our bed.

My world was a perfect, sun-drenched dream just a few short months ago.

Mark and I were planning our wedding, a fairytale affair set for next spring.

He was my rock, my soulmate, the man I swore I’d spend forever with.

Sarah, my best friend since kindergarten, was my Maid of Honor.

She knew all my secrets, shared my wildest dreams, and was practically family.

We spent countless evenings giggling over wedding Pinterest boards, picking out colors, and discussing floral arrangements.

Mark adored her too, always calling her his "little sister" or "my favorite third wheel."

I never once questioned their bond.

Why would I?

They were both integral parts of my future, my chosen family.

The signs, in hindsight, were probably there, subtle whispers I chose to ignore.

Mark had started working late more often, vague excuses about new projects.

Sarah, usually glued to her phone, became strangely secretive, always texting or stepping away for calls.

I chalked it up to wedding stress, to their own busy lives.

"You're just overthinking," Sarah would say, squeezing my hand reassuringly.

"Babe, you know I'm dedicated to us," Mark would promise, kissing my forehead.

I believed them, with every fiber of my being.

Trust was the foundation of everything I had built with them.

I walked in on my best friend and fiancé... in our bed.

One Tuesday evening, after a particularly grueling day at work, I decided to surprise Mark with his favorite takeout.

I wanted to cheer him up, to bring a little spark back into our increasingly hectic routine.

I remember picking up his usual Pad Thai, extra spicy, and a bottle of his preferred red wine.

My heart was light, filled with a simple, hopeful love.

The city traffic was a nightmare, and by the time I finally pulled into our driveway, it was already well past nine.

The house was dark, save for a soft glow spilling from our bedroom window upstairs.

"He's probably already in bed, watching TV," I thought, a warm smile touching my lips.

I quietly unlocked the front door, wanting to make my entrance dramatic, a romantic gesture.

The house was eerily silent, not even the hum of the television.

I tip-toed up the stairs, takeout bags rustling faintly in my hands.

As I neared our bedroom, I heard it.

A low, muffled laugh.

Not Mark's usual boisterous chuckle, but something softer, more intimate.

And then, another voice, distinctly female, equally hushed.

My stomach dropped, a sudden, icy clench.

My heart began to pound, a frantic drum against my ribs.

"Maybe Sarah stopped by to drop off something for the wedding," I reasoned, trying to calm the rising tide of panic.

"Or she's watching a movie with him, a silly rom-com."

I took a deep breath, pushing the doorknob gently.

It wasn’t locked.

The door swung inward, just a few inches, enough for me to peer through the crack.

The warm, amber glow of our bedside lamp filled the room.

And then, my eyes registered the scene.

A tangle of limbs on our white sheets.

Two figures, intertwined.

One was undeniably Mark.

His familiar broad shoulders, the way his hair fell across his forehead.

And the other... the other figure was smaller, with long, dark hair.

My breath hitched, catching in my throat like a shard of glass.

My eyes strained, begging my mind to see someone else, anyone else.

But the angle, the curve of her back, the familiar gesture of her hand running through his hair…

It was Sarah.

My best friend.

In our bed.

With my fiancé.
