My heart still clutches every time I think about that Tuesday afternoon.

It was supposed to be a normal day, a quiet escape from the usual hustle.

I came home early, excited to surprise Mark with his favorite takeout.

The front door was slightly ajar, which was unusual, but I didn't think much of it then.

A faint melody, not ours, drifted from the hallway.

I smiled, imagining Mark perhaps working from home, enjoying some new music.

I tiptoed in, the plastic bags rustling softly in my hands, a silly grin on my face.

"Honey, I'm home!" I whispered playfully, ready to startle him.

But no familiar reply came.

The house felt... off.

A silence hung heavy, broken only by that unfamiliar, hushed tune.

I followed the sound, my steps light, still expecting to catch him off guard.

It led me straight to our bedroom.

I walked into our bedroom and found my husband with another woman, destroying everything.

The door was partially open, casting a sliver of light onto the polished hardwood floor.

I paused, a sudden, inexplicable knot tightening in my stomach.

A woman's laugh, soft and unfamiliar, sliced through the air.

It was not Mark's laugh, but it was coming from our room.

My breath caught in my throat, a cold dread creeping up my spine.

My mind raced, scrambling for an explanation.

Maybe it was his sister? Or a colleague he was having a meeting with?

The thoughts felt like desperate lies, even as I formed them.

I pushed the door open, just a fraction more, my hand trembling slightly.

And then I saw it.

My entire world, everything I knew, every memory, every promise, shattered into a million pieces before my eyes.

There, tangled in our sheets, in our bed, was Mark.

And another woman.

Her head was thrown back, a look of pure pleasure on her face, her arm draped casually around my husband.

Mark’s eyes, when they met mine across the room, were wide with a terror I’d never seen before.

His face, usually so warm and loving, was a mask of guilt and shock.

The takeout bags slipped from my numb fingers, crashing to the floor, spilling greasy containers.

The clatter echoed like a gunshot in the deafening silence that followed.

My vision blurred, the room spinning around me.

I couldn't breathe.

It felt like someone had punched me squarely in the chest, stealing every ounce of air.

A choked sound, half gasp, half sob, escaped my lips.

The woman, startled by the noise, finally looked up.

Her eyes, wide and suddenly fearful, met mine.

There was no apology, no remorse, just a flicker of shame before she quickly averted her gaze.

Mark scrambled to cover himself, his movements frantic and clumsy.

"Sarah! I... I can explain!" he stammered, his voice raw with panic.
