My wedding day shattered when the groom married my SISTER instead of me!

The morning sun poured through the lace curtains, painting my room in a soft, ethereal glow.

It was my wedding day, a day I had dreamed of since I was a little girl.

My heart was a hummingbird trapped in my chest, a mixture of pure joy and electric anticipation.

My dress, a cascade of ivory silk and delicate pearls, hung ready, sparkling in the light.

My bridesmaids, my closest friends and of course, my sister, were buzzing with excitement around me.

Sarah, my younger sister, was usually the calmest one, but even she seemed unusually flushed and giddy.

I hugged her tight, thanking her for being my maid of honor, my rock.

She smiled, a little too brightly, and squeezed my hand hard.

The makeup artist dabbed away a stray tear of happiness from my cheek.

"You look absolutely stunning," she whispered, and I truly felt it.

I was ready to walk down that aisle, ready to start forever with Michael.

He was my everything, my anchor, my future.

I imagined his face as I approached, his eyes full of love, just for me.

The limousines were running a little behind schedule, or so I was told by the wedding planner.

A tiny prickle of unease started to form, but I brushed it aside.

Weddings were always chaotic, a beautiful kind of chaos.

My father came in, his eyes welling up as he saw me in my gown.

He offered his arm, his smile a little wobbly.

"Ready, sweetheart?" he choked out, his voice thick with emotion.

My wedding day shattered when the groom married my SISTER instead of me!

I nodded, taking a deep, calming breath.

"More than ready, Dad."

We began our slow walk towards the grand ballroom where the ceremony was to be held.

The hallway was strangely quiet, devoid of the usual pre-ceremony bustle.

"Are we early?" I whispered to my father.

He just shrugged, a bewildered look on his face.

As we approached the large, ornate double doors, we heard the familiar strains of the bridal march.

My blood ran cold.

That was my song, my signal.

But I was still outside.

My father paused, his brow furrowed in confusion.

"What's happening?" he murmured, a hint of concern in his voice.

He gently pushed open one of the doors, just a crack, enough for us to peek inside.

My heart hammered against my ribs, a frantic, desperate rhythm.

The room was filled with guests, their faces turned towards the altar.

The aisle was empty, but at the very front, under the arch of white roses and flowing chiffon...

There were two figures.

One was undeniably Michael, his back to us, wearing his tailored black tuxedo.

The other, facing him, was cloaked in a shimmering white gown.

My gown.

My breath hitched, a strangled sound caught in my throat.

It couldn't be.

My mind refused to process what my eyes were seeing.

The figure in white slowly turned her head, just slightly, as the officiant spoke.

And then I saw her.

The familiar cascade of blonde hair, the delicate curve of her jaw, the way her shoulders angled.

It was Sarah.

My sister.

She was standing there, at the altar, in my wedding dress, opposite my groom.

A tidal wave of nausea crashed over me, stealing all the air from my lungs.

The world tilted on its axis, every sound suddenly muffled, distant.

I felt my knees buckle beneath me, a cold sweat breaking out on my skin.

My father gasped beside me, a sharp, choked sound of disbelief.

His arm, which had supported me moments before, now trembled violently.

Michael was looking at Sarah, a tender, loving smile gracing his lips.

The kind of smile he had always reserved for me.

He was reaching out, taking her hand.
