The day before our wedding, I found my fiancé in bed with my best friend.

I still remember the feeling of pure magic, just hours before my world shattered into a million irreparable pieces.

My wedding day was almost here, a dream I’d planned since I was a little girl.

Mark, my fiancé, was everything I ever wanted in a partner, my rock, my future.

Sarah, my best friend since kindergarten, was practically my sister, my maid of honor.

We were all set for the perfect ceremony, surrounded by love and laughter and the promise of forever.

The venue was booked, the dress fitted flawlessly, the rings ready to be exchanged, shining bright with our hopes.

My bachelorette party had been a whirlwind of joy and sisterhood just days before.

Sarah had organized everything, showering me with affection and reminding me how lucky I was.

She’d even stayed late at Mark’s place the night before, helping him arrange some final decorations and prepare for the small pre-wedding brunch we had planned.

I had spent that evening at my parents’ house, following tradition, feeling a delicious mix of nerves and overwhelming happiness.

The next morning, the actual day before the wedding, I realized I’d forgotten my grandmother’s heirloom locket at Mark’s apartment.

It was my "something old" and absolutely essential for the ceremony.

I called Mark, but his phone went straight to voicemail, which was unusual.

Sarah’s phone also went unanswered, which struck me as odd since they were supposed to be tidying up together.

A tiny, fleeting shiver of unease ran down my spine, but I quickly dismissed it as pre-wedding jitters.

They were probably just busy, their phones on silent or charging.

I decided to just drive over, grab the locket, and surprise them with coffee and pastries.

The day before our wedding, I found my fiancé in bed with my best friend.

The sun was shining, a perfect omen, as I drove towards the apartment building where Mark and I had built so many happy memories.

My heart swelled with love and anticipation, picturing our life together.

I hummed our song as I rode the elevator up to his floor, a paper bag filled with hot coffee and flaky croissants in my hand.

I used the spare key Mark had given me, the one that symbolized our shared future.

The apartment was strangely quiet when I pushed the door open.

“Mark? Sarah? I brought coffee!” I called out, my voice cheerful, echoing slightly in the stillness.

No answer, but I heard a faint, rustling sound coming from the bedroom.

A sudden, sharp pang of something cold, something I couldn’t name, hit my stomach.

My smile faltered as I slowly walked towards the closed bedroom door.

A muffled giggle, undeniably Sarah’s, pierced the silence, followed by a low murmur that sounded like Mark.

My heart started to pound, a frantic, desperate drum against my ribs, and my hands started to tremble.

My mind raced, trying to conjure a logical explanation, but all I found was a gaping void.

I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself, trying to believe that this was some innocent, mundane moment I was misinterpreting.

My hand reached out, slowly, to the doorknob.

It turned with a soft click, and I pushed the door open, just a crack at first.

The sight that greeted me froze every single cell in my body, snatching the breath from my lungs.

My beautiful white wedding dress, carefully hung on a hanger just yesterday, lay crumpled on a chair by the bed.

And there they were.

Mark and Sarah.

Intertwined in my bed.

His hand was tangled in her hair, her arms wrapped around him, their bodies pressed together.

They looked up at me, their faces contorted in a mixture of shock and abject horror.

Sarah gasped, pulling the sheet higher, her eyes wide with terror, not shame.

Mark’s face went pale, a sickening gray, his jaw dropping in disbelief that he’d been caught.

The paper bag slipped from my numb fingers, the coffee cups shattering on the hardwood floor, dark liquid staining the pristine wood.

The pastries rolled across the room like forgotten dreams.

A silent scream tore through my throat, a primal agony that had no sound.

My entire world, the future I had painstakingly built, imploded in that instant.

My vision blurred, tears springing to my eyes, hot and stinging, blurring the grotesque tableau before me.

I couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think, couldn’t move.

“Elara… it’s not what it looks like,” Mark stammered, scrambling to cover himself.

But it was exactly what it looked like.

It was betrayal, raw and brutal, from the two people I loved and trusted most in the world.
