The Sterile Silence of Aura Motors
The air inside the Aura Motors showroom was kept at a precise sixty-eight degrees.
E.g. :I still see my art project shattering on that hallway floor.

It was a temperature designed to keep the wealthy comfortable and the desperate shivering.
Julian Vance adjusted his silk tie in the reflection of a two-million-dollar hypercar.
He took pride in his ability to sniff out "low-value" individuals before they even touched the door handle.
To Julian, the showroom was a temple, and he was the high priest guarding the altar of extreme wealth.
When the glass doors slid open, a wave of heat from the Los Angeles pavement rushed in.
Along with the heat came a man who looked like he had spent the day digging trenches in the Mojave Desert.
The Intruder in the Temple
The man’s boots left faint, sandy prints on the white Carrera marble.
His construction vest was faded, the neon orange dulled by layers of concrete dust and dried sweat.
Julian felt a surge of genuine physical disgust as the man approached the main desk.
The sales staff whispered to one another, clutching their clipboards like shields.
They had been trained to handle celebrities and oil tycoons, not men who smelled of manual labor.
Julian stepped forward, blocking the man’s path with a practiced, condescending smile.
"I think you’ve made a mistake," Julian said, his voice loud enough for the other customers to hear.
The Ultimatum
The construction worker stopped and looked Julian directly in the eyes.
His eyes were a piercing, crystalline blue that seemed out of place behind his grime-streaked face.
"I'm here to see the new inventory," the man said, his voice surprisingly calm and resonant.
Julian let out a short, sharp laugh that contained no humor.
"The 'inventory' in this room costs more than your entire lineage has earned in a century," Julian hissed.
He leaned in closer, dropping the professional facade for a moment of pure elitism.
"This place isn't for you, and honestly, the sidewalk outside is starting to look too good for you."
"Please leave before I have security remove you for trespassing."
The Battered Wallet
The man didn't flinch or show a hint of embarrassment.
He looked around the room, taking in the architecture and the placement of the cars.
"You've changed the layout," the man remarked quietly.
"I liked the 1964 prototype in the center; it gave the room a soul."
Julian’s face flushed red with anger at the man’s audacity to critique the design.
"Security!" Julian called out, waving his hand toward the back of the building.
Before the guards could arrive, the man reached into his back pocket.
He pulled out a thick, battered leather wallet that looked like it had been run over by a truck.
The Black Metal Card
With a slow, deliberate movement, the man pulled a single card from the wallet.
It wasn't plastic, and it didn't have a logo from any bank Julian recognized.
It was a heavy slab of black metal with a small, glowing circuit embedded in the corner.
He slid it across the glass counter toward Julian.
"Check the status," the man said simply.
Julian wanted to throw the card back at him, but something about the weight of the metal gave him pause.
He picked it up, expecting it to be a fake or a prank.
The System Response
Julian swiped the card through the high-security terminal at the front desk.
Usually, the machine took three seconds to verify a transaction.
This time, the entire dealership’s digital infrastructure seemed to groan under the weight of the data.
Every television screen in the showroom suddenly turned a deep, shimmering gold.
